Oh No Ono, SPOT festival 2007, Officerspladsen, Friday

Foto: Jan Chrillesen
Professionally balanced helium voices took the stage at Officerspladsen with ten electrical hit songs.

With the line ”It’s such a difficult life - life - life - life!” from their hit song The Shock of the Real sat Oh No Ono the floor in motion and kept the audience on their feet. It is, however, hard to see exactly how the life could be so difficult for the 22-25 year old upcoming stars of one of Denmarks most adored alternative bands, after the release of their first (and hopefully not last!) album ”Yes”.

For the occasion Officerspladsen was filled with ever changing colorful flashes and a band sporting just as colourful robes. The colours embraced the ultra dansable party vibe, which is what Oh No Ono does so brilliantly: People cannot stand still when songs like ”Keeping Warm In Cold Country” or ”Practical Money Skills For Life” are forcefully thrown out from the speakers. But not only is the music excellent, also the live performance is full of satisfying detail; a skilled drummer showing off, while the bass player chucks a beer and lead singer Malthe lights a cigarette before the drum solo kicks off the next electrical hit song.

It is impossible to compare Oh No Ono to other bands without resorting to analogies and hybrid analysis. And that is a great praise. They uniquely place themselves in a universe of 80’s vibe, but with rock-a-delic funk elements and two singers with voices like seven year olds as their trademark.

The only reason why the sixth star is not rewarded in this review, is that Oh No Onos razor sharp professionalism actually inhibits their live performance a bit, and while still moving your feet and waving your arms to the music, you get the feeling that this is not truly a unique performance; it comes off as a rendition of their last spectacular show. But still, there should be no ”No” in Oh No Ono, only ”Oh!” Oh, yes.Reviewed by:
