SPOT was kicked off (and revisited) by a cool ”catastrophy”
It is never easy to open a festival. Whether it is Glastonbury or a small festival does not matter, as there are always big expectations for the opening band. The local (Århus, Denmark) Marybell Katastrophy kicked it off with great conviction Thursday evening at SPOT 2007 and if this kind of concert is what we might expect for the coming days, it will become a huge musical experience. Marybell Katastrophy explores the minimalist and electronic noise-rock’s territories, and has been provided access to the large scene at Musikhuset.
The soundscape seemed big, without it ever being repulsive and especially the live-recorded synth-bass really got the crowd going. The band also used the opening to play with a theatrical universe. The girls on stage was dressed in purple tight gowns, but with extra fillings around the hips. Maybe this was to be Marybell Katastrophy’s personal crusade against a business that often focuses on the opposite.
