The Kissaway Trail – looking forward to their first ever SPOT gig.
The 2007 edition of the SPOT Festival is rapidly approaching. The first list of acts for the thirteenth festival, which takes place on June-1st-2nd in downtown Aarhus, can now be revealed. And the names on the list point in very different directions – both in terms of genre and experience. They have one thing in common, though: they are all bands on their way up – willing to put themselves on the line and with ambitions of taking yet another step up the ladder – whether that be in their home country or on the international scene.
Take The Kissaway Trail: After a couple of years of searching and refining, the band has found the right stratum for their light-as-air, dreamy pop songs, and now both British Bella Union and Australian Etch ‘n’ Sketch have signed them, while the Americans and Canadians will get the opportunity to see them live in March in Texas (South By SouthWest) and Toronto (Canadian Music Week) respectively.
Or how about Dúné – one of last year’s sensations at SPOT – their energetic performance of their crisp pop tunes at the festival is the main reason that this April they are to play at the big Musexpo Festival in Los Angeles. In early June, they return to SPOT. All of this despite the fact that they have yet to release their debut album!
Dúné - success at SPOT 12 – and hungry for more...
Next in line is Beta Satan. Risen from the ashes of Tiger Tunes, Beta Satan plays hardcore pop-rock which practically roars for international attention. Another new band with a past under different name is Alphabeat. Formerly known as Sodastar, they now make up smash hits off the top of their heads.
Obviously, however, in the line up for SPOT 13 there will also be a number of bands who have been around for years. Thus, The Blue Van will be at SPOT again, and with a brand new album to boot, before they go abroad to satisfy the international craving for their updating of the rock heritage of the 60s and 70s. These days, the guys in synth pop band Spleen United are focusing on their next album so their concert at this year’s SPOT Festival is going to be their only gig in Denmark the first 6 month of 2007. Who knows, maybe we’ll get some samples from the coming album?
Marit Larsen – Norwegian shooting star at SPOT.
The rest of the Nordic countries will be represented by a number of strong acts. Now we can reveal that Marit Larsen is to going to play at SPOT. Beginning her career as child star and later enjoying tremendous success as one half of the teenage duo M2M, she has now proved herself as a brilliant solo artist and a great pop smith of the adventurous kind. Her countrymen of The Lionheart Brothers with their penchant for psychedelic, free-floating pop, Icelandic Reykjavik!, a pure punk explosion, and Swedish Forest & Crispian, who pay tribute to melodious guitar-based indie rock will also be heading for SPOT.
The SPOT festival will consist of approximately 90 acts playing from around 10 stages in and around the Concert Hall – Aarhus, Officerspladsen and Ridehuset. Tickets can now be purchased Online: Gaffa Billet: www.gaffabillet.dk. Or in one of the following: the Gaffa Shops in Copenhagen and Aarhus, all Stereo Studio stores as well the Concert Hall in Aarhus.
