Eddie Kramer – exhibiting his photos in Aarhus and giving a lecture. (Click on the photo for large version – anyone using the picture must refer to the photographer of the picture, Robert Sturman).
One of the greatest sound engineers and producers in rock history is going to exhibit pictures of Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Frank Zappa, The Rolling Stones, etc., pictures which he took during recording sessions in the years from 1968 to 1973. Opening at Galleri Profilen on 31st May – and a lecture at the SPOT Festival on 1st June.
Eddie Kramer is an undisputed legend. He was in charge of the mixing desk for The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Santana, Led Zeppelin and countless of other big names, not least Jimi Hendrix with whom he left England and went to the US and worked with on all Hendrix’s official releases.
During the studio sessions – the rehearsals, the breaks, the editing, etc., Eddie Kramer always kept his camera by him and took pictures – thousands of them in the years 1968-73, and then he forgot all about them. Until a couple of years ago, that is, when he dusted them off for a Hendrix book. It led to the idea of an actual exhibition.
Until now the pictures have only been displayed in L. A., Dubai, and Rotterdam, now the Galleri Profilen will become the fourth venue:
Jimi Hendrix - here on the cover of the posthumous Fillmore East release, which incidentally also featured Eddie Kramer as sound engineer.
- I heard about the pictures from the musician Henrik Tvede, but initially dismissed the idea right away, because normally music photos don’t appeal to me, but he managed to persuade me into having a look at them, and I realised how great these pictures are. They are really something special because the musicians don’t pose for the camera, rather the pictures have been taken in intense moments or situations when the musicians have their guards down, says Lars Fog-Poulsen co-owner of Galleri Profilen.
With the decision to exhibit the pictures in Aarhus already made, the idea of including Kramer in this year’s program at the SPOT Festival virtually presented itself, and thus Eddie Kramer is going to give a lecture at SPOT 2007.
The Aarhus gallery will present a total of 35 photos of Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Frank Zappa, The Rolling Stones, Santana, and Joe Cocker. The official opening of the exhibition, which Eddie Kramer is going to attend personally, is to take place on Thursday 31st May from 4 to 6 pm. The exhibition runs until 28th June.
At the SPOT Festival, on Friday 1st of June at two o’clock pm, in “Filuren” in the Concert Hall, Eddie Kramer is going to treat the audience with a show of no less than 120 pictures, the backgrounds of which he is going to share with us – as well as plenty of anecdotes and other goodies.
