Johnson - Coming to SPOT with a Danish Music Award.
There will be plenty of new Danish hip-hop and rap at the coming SPOT Festival as well as music from a broad selection of related genres. Johnson is arguably the hottest name in Danish hip hop right now – only a couple of weeks ago, he received the Danish Music Award statuette as a token that his album “Det passer” was the “best hip-hop release” in 2006. In any case, he is in this year’s line up for SPOT.
So is another Aarhus wise-guy, Jøden – the freestyler, whose debut album “MonkeyJuice” will be released in April. Incidentally, this month he has been playing gigs with Johnson. Speaking of Aarhus hip-hop, U$O has also been added to the list – the speed rapper, who collaborated with Johnson in B.A.N.G.E.R.S., and who also releases a new album next month.
From Copenhagen comes Zaki, the rapper of Egyptian descent, whose inverted racism lyrics have attracted quite a bit of attention. And Gypsies, who also appear as backing for Outlandish, will be there with their hard hip hop and r’n’b.
Ida Corr – uncompromising and imaginative.
Shifting the focus towards soul, we are happy to announce Ida Corr, who has recently received plenty of praise for her uncompromising and imaginative mix of soul, hip-hop, jazz and electronic funk. Also to be found in the league of electronic funk is Lo-Fi-Fnk, whose tracks invariably tend to make you head for the dance floor…
The same goes for Slowtrainsoul – featuring Morten Varano and English Lady Z, whose sexy soul makes dance floors crowded not just in Denmark but also abroad. Carla Alexander also fits this category. Having previously collaborated with Vaarano, she now excels in what she herself terms ‘sambamuffin’.
Last but not least in the electronic hybrid department, Je m’apelle Mads & Bounty Niller are impossible to ignore. Everything goes – crazy performance, electro, Danish oldies, hip-hop, and dancehall – and with such an appetite for cheap bawdiness that people who tend to blush easily won’t stand a chance. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!
