Working title: Frankenstein...May 21, 2007

Henrik Friis |

“It starts out with a man whose world has just fallen apart. The story then becomes a journey into his head during which you find out about all the good and bad things which led to this disaster.”

So says Kim Munk – the songwriter and front man of The Broken Beats, a band on the rise both in Denmark and abroad. Now, however, he has embarked on a fascinating side project together with Henrik Munch, probably best known as the electronic creator in Sorten Muld. With financial backing from the Danish Arts Foundation, they are currently busy working on a one-hour music piece, which will be premièred at the SPOT Festival.

With these two guys collaborating, it’s bound to be melodious, but not just verse-chorus-verse. Rather, a piece with clear progression. The working title is “Frankenstein”.

Kim Munk has contributed the initial draft, to which Henrik Munch has added numerous old soundscapes, etc. from his own private stock in his home lab and created new sounds as well –

“Nice to have plenty of new raw material for such a project”, says Munch whose work since the heyday of Sorten Muld includes composing film scores not least for the hugely successful Danish political thriller King’s Game.

Together and on their own, the two wizards, of song writing and machines respectively, are still busy refining and developing the project until its première.
Whether the end result will include just the two of them or 20 musicians on stage
remains to be seen. Unpredictable in other words – just like the music…
